1984

George Orwell's 1984 is a warning of what can happen if we give up our freedom and individuality and let ourselves be controlled by government.

Newspeak
ownlife: individualism, eccentricity.
goodthinker: to know, without taking thought, what is true belief or the desirable emotion.
crimestop: the faculty of stopping short, as though by instinct, at the threshold of any dangerous thought. It includes the power of not grasping analogies, of failing to perceive logical errors, of misunderstanding of the simplest arguments if they are inimical to Ingsoc, and of being bored or repelled by any train of thought which is capable of leading in a heretical direction. Protective stupidity.
blackwhite: applied an opponent, it means the habit of impudently claiming that black is white, in contradiction to the plain facts. Applied to a Party member, it means a loyal willingnes to say that black is white when Party discipline demands this. But it means also the ability to believe that black is white, and more, to know that black is white, and to forget that one has ever believed the contrary.
doublethink: in Oldspeak, "reality control." The power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them.

song lyric/quote of the moment... I understand HOW: I do not understand WHY. -George Orwell, 1984

WAR IS POWER

FREEDOM IS SLAVERY

IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH.
