WORD DEFINED
Potlatch: an event among Northwest Coast peoples in which chiefs gave away vast amounts of wealth in order to demonstrate power and embarrass other chiefs.

yep, i'll be making my way to another one of these in just a few... can't wait! :D

MY DAYS INSIDE ARE NO MORE
finally popped my head out in the outside world after staying indoors for a whole freakin' day. well, probably the only reason was to go by to pick up my final and bring it home. kinda like getting a puppy, only it's not alive, isn't cute and cuddly, does not have fur, can't move, doesn't eat anything, and doesn't make messes, but at least it didn't cost me anything...
i didn't even make it to my other final today. looked at the clock at 2:02 and decided that i wasn't going to make it, especially since it started at 2:00. oh well, i shall never know the meditation that victor was going to show us...
i met a new friend today. his name's moe. hello moe. :)
welp, i guess it's back to sedentism for me. gaH! i shall emerge again soon. the end is nearing. i'll miss you all.

gaH!
i am super bored. i've reached an all-time low this week. i should be studying for a final, but on a bit of luck, it was announced that my open-book, open-note final for world prehistory (my only final this semester) is take-home. so instead of staying for a two hour final on tuesday, we just go and pick it up and then drop it off by noon on thursday. the final for my humanistic, existential, transpersonal class is optional, since he's just going to show us a meditation, so i'm still debating on whether or not i'll go. it just might come down to having something to do that day.
i've taken most of my things down off the walls in my room. there's only a picture of my love and my calendar still up. the walls look all bare. probably cause they are. i've also packed away some of my stuff in boxes in my closet. i don't have much stuff with me considering i'm a packrat and usually have tons of stuff with me at all times. it mostly comes down to cleaning now.
yesterday after sleeping in, the day added up to watching a lifetime movie with wendy, going to get pizza at little ceasars, and then walking over to coldstone to get ice cream. yes, it was my first time in coldstone, and so wendy and bri had to help me choose what i wanted. i got cake batter ice cream with graham cracker pie crust and fudge as mix-ins. good thing about being a student? second mix-in is free when you show your ssu student id. if you go to cold stone creamery, you can enter to win ice cream cakes for life. i took the quiz and it told me the following...
Cold Stone Cakes
Zebra Stripes
Amy, it seems like you've found a great balance between spontaneity and practicality —not an easy task. You've tapped into an incredible source of fun while staying grounded and checking in with yourself. Good for you! So maybe it's time to treat yourself to a Zebra Stripes™ ice cream cake that suits your spirited, well-rounded style.
Zebra Stripes consist of layers of moist devil’s food cake and sweet cream ice cream wrapped in fluffy, white frosting
Thought you should know
Cold Stone Creamery makes fresh ice cream. Although people tend to leave our ice cream stores happier than when they came in, we do not practice professional psycho-therapy or analysis. It’s only a hobby. Please enjoy our "Ultimates Quiz" for its intended use, which is to help you determine which Cold Stone Cake may best suit your taste.
yael went to some jazz show with ron last night. she asked wendy and me if we wanted to go, but it was $25 and we both were only willing to pay $2. what can i say? we're poor. she didn't come home till this morning since her car was towed last night where she left it.
friday was me and wendy day. we woke up early to eat breakfast at the cafeteria. i must say, the tater tots were quite disappointing. it was fun, but at almost $6 a person, we decided that it wouldn't be something that we would have done every morning. of course wendy kinda changed her mind after she found the mochas. afterward, we got boxes from in back of the cafeteria and decided that we should sell them in the quad for 25 cents each. dang, anything to make money...
oh yeah, and about those lifetime movies. i have officially dubbed the lifetime network the anti-relationship channel. first there was the movie with the guy who cheated on his wife with basically any woman he knew, then yesterday's movie was about a guy who was seduced by some older woman who he had screwed around with and then decided he wanted to end it. the lady turned out to be psycho and carried around the motto, if you leave me, i'll kill you. and so i've come away with the following; "why are men so stupid?" it made me thankful thati'm gay, i have a boy, who i made promise me he'd stay a boy forever. no cheating. no lying. you know what we think about people like that...
i took my paperwork by to get a signature to officially declare anthropology as a minor. i talked it over with my professor and it looks like i'll only have to take one or two anthro classes in the spring to fulfill the requirement. with two more psychology classes for my major, looks like i'll either have four or five classes in the spring of next year.
which reminds me, i only have four classes again in the fall. i don't know how i've lucked out when most everyone has been screwed over one way or another by budget cuts and lack of classes. fall is filled with tuesday/thursday classes with an 8am class, so we'll have to see how that works itself out. my schedule for fall 2004 follows:
ANTH 415 Forensic Anthropology Methods TTh 8:00AM-9:50AM
PSY 326 Social Psychology TTh 10:00AM-11:50AM
PSY 320 Computer Applications in Psychology TTh 1:00PM-2:50PM
PSY 302 Development of the Person T 7:00PM-9:40PM
the anthro potlatch is going to be on the 30th of this month, which means i'll be able to attend. i was happy, since i was unable to make it to the christmas party. i'm hoping that amir and setareh will come this year since they weren't able to make it to last year's. plus, hopefully kevin'll be able to make it around his work schedule. there should be some new faces, since anthro club has grown considerably this year. then there's the same familiar faces that you can always count on seeing. pc's graduation is on the 28th, which i plan to attend. kym's graduation is on the 2nd, and i have no idea at what time. i'm going to try to make it though. oh, and then dashboard confessional is playing at uci on the 7th, so now i want to make my visit to see amir and setareh then. there's some wedding that i might take pictures at, and then katrina's baby shower that emily and bryon are going to be in town for. sounds like it's going to be busy the next couple of weeks.
wednesday night, we're watching pay it forward and having brownies in celebration of yael and bri's birthdays, which are over summer. then, on thursday, we're having our taco bell party since we don't plan on having much food around here. plus, if he doesn't get lost again, my love plans on getting here around 10pm on thursday to rescue me "from the mean castle."
i hope there's something on besides only lifetime movies. i get mad at the characters, especially the stupid men, and then i go and take it out on my love.

RIGHT
you were right wendy. it was something so trivial. sometimes we don't learn. lies catch up with us in the end...

WHEN YOU'RE WRONG
dear wendy,
sometimes you think you know a person oh too well, right? but then you realize that this is not the case at all. you don't know that person. you can never really know that person. you might have thought you did, but then this person does something that you would have never thought of and you realize that you couldn't have been more wrong.
so, what's worse? finding out you don't know a person, or living your life believing that you do?

WHEN YOU KNOW SOMEONE TOO WELL
wendy,
remember the last time we were in wal-mart when i saw that ad saying that the last samurai was coming out and said, "look, the last samurai is coming out, i bet you kevin will go out and buy it." remember that? well what do you know, kevin went out and bought it. sometimes you know a person oh too well. oh too well...

SSU COMMENCEMENT CEREMONIES STREAMED ONLINE?
this school has really jumped on the technology bandwagon. just received an email saying that this year's commencement ceremonies will be streamed online for friends and family who are unable to attend. i've never heard of such a thing before. you might want to bookmark the address for next year when i'll be graduating since i know not all y'all will be able to make it. this is some crazy stuff.
below you can read the email for yourself. this is definitely some crazy stuff.
SSU: Commencement Ceremonies
eMemo

RE: Commencement 2004
As you are probably aware, Commencement takes place this year on Saturday, May 22. Those students who are graduating may want to review the Commencement Web site for information. It can be found at http://www.sonoma.edu/uaffairs/commencement/index.html
Please pay particular attention to the Graduates' Handbook where many questions about Commencement are answered.
This year, for the first time, both Commencement ceremonies (10 a.m. and 3 p.m.) will be Webcast. For friends and family who will not be attending, this is a good way for them to view the event online. The Webcast will be archived, so it can be viewed at a later date as well. Please bookmark http://streaming.sonoma.edu/ for viewing the Commencement ceremonies.
Additionally, for those guests who find the heat of the day too intense or for some other reason need to be indoors, we will be screening the Webcast in the Multi-Purpose Room of the Student Union during the ceremonies. The room only holds approximately 100 chairs so seating is limited and should be reserved for those who have a true need.
Congratulations to those students who are graduating and best wishes to all SSU students.

GOOD AND BAD
my love is coming a day earlier. he has to attend a funeral and will be up in this area, so even though it's for something sad, i'm happy i get to spend some extra time with him. i just hope that i allow myself enough time to work on my schoolwork.
i finished my reflections paper that is due tomorrow. hopefully today i start and get some of my transpersonal paper done. however, i have not even begun to work on my poster and so that's something i'll have to spend time doing soon.
oh, and if you wanna get some good laughs, visit alex's site superman3k. it's great to know that i'm not the only mean evil person out there. muahahahahaha... go alex!

RSA LUAU
so... yesterday was the rsa luau from 1pm till midnight and there was free cotton candy and sno cones, cookie decorating, sumo wrestling, a huge slip n slide, music, with lots more going on. wendy, yael, and i went to check out what was going on in the afternoon and then decided to go back around 6 to listen to the bands.
at night they had free pizza from ameci's and we saw a local funk band called blue lotus. they all go to school here and play lots of gigs around campus. then, a band called third day promise from southern california played. the band sounded good, but their singer wasn't too good and it was getting kinda cold, so we came back to our apartment. wendy and i were interested in checking out the third band, so we went back and stayed to watch simply lost, another southern california band who got two tickets on their way here. according to their drummer, who got the two tickets, the first was for speeding and the second was for not stopping at a red light. he had thought that since he had already gotten one ticket, he should drive the rest of the way, cause what's the probability that he was going to get another ticket? pretty high, i guess. anyways, their jewish roadie/manager guy andy was cool. he was selling cds and stuff and wendy and i bought their cds, two for $5. can't beat that, can you? i can... i got them both signed... :-D and andy was so excited that we bought cds, he gave us hugs and free buttons. plus, he got my cds signed for me... se we were glad that we went back, even though our ears were ringing. it had been a long time since i had been to a concert...
when we got back, we saw big fish and yeah, yael fell asleep through it. great movie. my mom should see it. she'd like it a lot. my favorite part was when he was in the bathtub underwater and was blowing bubbles.
oh yeah, and i wonder if simply lost really did spend the night on the grass. they should've slept on the sidewalk, cause if you were grass, how would you like it if someone lay on you???
